Compared to my <a href=\"\/?p=133\">first attempt<\/a> and the <a href=\"\/?p=134\">spike work<\/a> that followed, the process for building out the shoulder this time was a little simplified, using only three cross-sections instead of five, but it&#8217;s quickly produced a good result. So today I&#8217;m moving on to adding a layer of epoxy putty to form the pauldron itself.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_overview.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_overview_thumb.jpeg\" title=\"The end result of tonight's work, the epoxy putty shell for the pauldron, compared to the previous version and a 3D printed version\"><\/a> <a href=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_form.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_form_thumb.jpeg\" title=\"The result of yeaterday's work, the clay form that is the starting point for the shape of the pauldron\"><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAs before, the process of forming the surface of the pauldron is to mix up some epoxy putty, roll it out into a flat sheet, and apply it onto the surface of the clay form. The epoxy putty is then trimmed and sculpted to better fit the proper shape of the part.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_shell_1.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_shell_1_thumb.jpeg\" title=\"For this build I need to work around the spike fringes, so I applied the epoxy putty to one section at a time.\"><\/a> <a href=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_shell_2.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/model-data\/1_100_Zaku_Kai\/zakufz_20220221_pauldron_shell_2_thumb.jpeg\" title=\"With the old pauldron build I needed to build out the whole shell, then cut holes in it and try to place the spike fringes.
